MarkerA rectangular information board mounted on a wooden base commemorating the Battle of Imbrechies, which occurred on September 2, 1944, when U.S. troops of the 60th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division entered Belgium and reached the Imbrechies ridge. The battle was fought between American forces positioned in Monceau-Imbrechies and German troops in Macon, which resulted to 12 casualties, including 1st Lieutenant Claude B. Cook. The board is written in both English and French.

You are on the Imbrechies ridge, dominated by the Imbrechies Castle and
offering a wide view of Macon and Salles villages. From here, you can see
the Wallers stone quarry, the Hermitage Farm, Baives water tower, the
Church and Calvary of Macon
Le 2 sept. 1944 à 8h30, le 60 RI, 9 Div. dInfanterie, 1ère Armée US
traverse la frontière à Cendron. Vers 10h, ils atteignent la crête
dImbrechies. La 2ème SS Panzer Division « Das Reich » les attend à
Macon. Une estafette allemande se fait intercepter par un tir
américain au Terne Rousseau.
On Sept. 2, 1944 at 8:30 a.m., the 60th IR, 9th Infantry Div., 1st U.S. Army
crossed the border in Cendron. At around 10 a.m., they reached the
Imbrechies ridge. The 2nd SS Panzer Division Das Reich was waiting for
them in Macon. A German jeep was stopped by U.S. machine gun fire at
Terne Rousseau.

The Imbrechies battle opposing the Americans in Monceau-Imbrechies to the
Germans in Macon lasted for about an hour. When the fight ended, the U.S.
troops had lost 12 GIs dont le 1er Lt Claude B. Cook, who was
killed in the stable which later became the Museum 40-44 Lieutenant
Cook.
