Details:
The monument is located on the north side of the truck rest stop off of D964. It is between a small trash can and a white birch tree. Marker The monument is a white concrete pillar that features one plaque describing the strategy importance of the area and the advance of the 5th U.S. Division at the time of the monument's construction as well as two depictions of the Division's Red Diamond logo, two larger ones that are visible to oncoming traffic in the truck rest area as well as a smaller one that rests above the plaque on the south side of the monument. This monument talks about the importance of engineering units in the crossing of the Meuse River, located just 1.5 miles to the south. The crossing of the Meuse was one of the last components of the Meuse-Argonne Offensive and served as a serious strategic and mental victory for the Allies. It ultimately lead to the armistice on November 11, 1918.

"Le 6 novembre 1918, un détachement du 6e régiment infanterie,
10e brigade, 5e U.S. division, attaqua l'ennemi par le flanc
et par l'arrière, forçant son repli du front de la 15e division coloniale française,
et permettant, plus tard, la traversée de la Meuse et l'entrée dans Vilosnes."
English Translation:
"On November 6, 1918, a detachment of the 6th Infantry Regiment
10th Brigade, 5th U.S. Division, attacked the enemy's flank and rear,
thereby forcing their retreat from the front and allowing
for the later crossing of the Meuse and entrance into Vilosnes
by the 15th French Colonial Division."
