Details:

The monument is located at the immediate side of the D964 highway. To the west open fields and the canal referenced in the monument's inscription are visible. On the opposite side of the road is the small driveway mentioned in the site description. Marker This white concrete pillar rests on a concrete base and features two small plaques bearing inscriptions (in French) about the 5th Infantry Division's advance as well as two depictions of the division's Red Diamond insignia. The inscriptions are on the north and east side of the pillar. The smaller Red Diamond is located above the inscription on the east side while the larger one is visible to oncoming traffic from the south. The logo of Le Souvenir Français is located in the bottom right corner on the east side of the monument.


This monument has been recently refurbished and repainted thanks to the support of Le Souvenir Français and its partners.

Monument Text:

Inscription 1:
"Site de ponts légers à travers la Meuse et le canal pour
les troupes à pied de la 9e brigade d'infanterie, 5e U.S. division,
construits par la compagnie D du 7e régiment du génie, les 4 et 5
novembre 1918."

Inscription 2:
"Cote 292 et pente nord de la cote 260 capturées par
les troupes de la 9e brigade d'infanterie commandée par 
le lieutenant-colonel L.A. McCLURE, 5e U.S. division, 
le 5 novembre 1918."

English Translation:

Inscription 1:
"This pillar marks the site of the foot bridges across
the Meuse and the canal for foot troops of the 9th Infantry Brigade,
5th U.S. Division, constructed by the D Company of
the 7th Engineer Brigade on November 4 and 5, 1918."

Inscription 2:
"Hill 292 and the northern slop of Hill 260 were
captured by troops of the 9th Infantry Brigade commanded by
Lieutenant-Colonel L.A. McClure, 5th U.S. Division, on November 5, 1918."
