5th Infantry Division Stele of Milly-sur-Bradon

<< Back to Milly-sur-Bradon

Details:

The memorial is located on the west side of D964. To the immediate south is a small gravel road that leads into the surrounding fields toward a ruined underpass. To the immediate north there is a small trash can.  Marker This white concrete pillar rests on a plain concrete base and contains two plaques describing the 5th Infantry Division's advance through the area as well as their Red Diamond insignia. Two large diamonds are visible to passing traffic on D964. The small diamond resides above one of the plaques and faces the road itself. The capture of Milly-devant-Dun was part of the 5th Infantry Division's movement northward and was captured immediately after the taking of Dun-sur-Meuse. Like Doulcon and other towns, Milly-devant-Dun had plenty of captured materials which the Allies were then able to use in their continued advance against the German army. Additionally, Milly-devant-Dun served as an important dressing and supply station who were evacuated from the front lines via ambulances.

This monument has recently been refurbished and repainted thanks to the supports of Le Souvenir Français and its partners.
