5th Infantry Division Stele of Juvigny-sur-Loison (Southwest)

Details:

The monument is located just off of the D69 highway on the opposite side of an irrigation ditch. It is situated very close to kilometer marker number 5.  Marker This white concrete pillar rests on a concrete base and contains representations of the 5th Infantry Division's Red Diamond logo in addition to a plaque describing (in French) the division's advance. Two large diamonds are visible to oncoming traffic in both directions while a smaller diamond is located above the plaque on the side of the monument that faces the road.

Monument Text:

"Avance extrême de la 9e brigade d'infanterie,
5e U.S. division, commandée par le brigadier général J.C. CASTNER,
le 11 novembre 1918."

English Translation:

"Furthest advance of the 9th Infantry Brigade,
5th U.S. Division, commanded by Brigadier General J.C. Castner,
November 11, 1918."
