Liberation of Périers 90th Infantry Division Steles

Details:

Two similar markers can be found at the site. The first is located just west of the intersection of La Montagne (D24) and Les Milleries (D301) in a roadside clearing, while the second can be found approximately .4 miles (.6 km) northeast near La Doderie. The two steles are connected by an unmarked road known as the "Chemin de l’Hôpital" (Hospital Way). Marker

The grey granite markers are approximately 8 ft (2.4 m) tall and feature engraved black text in French beneath the 90th Infantry Division symbol.

The steles denote the location of a battle which took place on July 26, 1944. 72 American soldiers of the 359th Regiment, 90th Infantry Division were killed and 180 were wounded at the site during the liberation of Périers. The markers were dedicated on July 27th, 2014 at a ceremony in Périers in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the liberation of the town from German forces.

Ici, le 26 Juillet 1944, lors de la dernière bataille pour la libération de Périers, moururent 72 soldats du 359eme Régiment de la 90eme Division d’Infanterie US.

180 autres furent blesses.
