When Raymond Francis Demers was born in 1920, his father, John, was 30 and his mother, Merle, was 26. He had two brothers and one sister. He entered the US Army Air Forces in Nebraska. On April 24, he took part in a bomber escort mission to Munich. Lieutenant Demers was killed at the controls of his P-51B (42-106723) OS R "Moon", shot down by the flak as he strafed some barges after shooting down 2 Me 109s and sharing a third. His wing is was torn off during the attack. He is now buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Sidney, Nebraska, USA.
