Lieutenant Frank Gowing he was killed in action while piloting the P-51B (42-106733) OS R, hit by flak as he shot barges near St Pol. Other reports indicate that he jumped at 2030 and that he managed to escape. He is now buried in Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-sur-Mer, France. He also has a marker at Lakeside Cemetery, Sackets Harbor, Jefferson County, New York, USA.
