When Edward W. Benecke was born on May 2, 1918, in New Jersey, his father, Frederick, was 28 and his mother, Lillian, was 23. He had six brothers and one sister. He served in the U.S. Army during the Normandy Invasion as a Staff Sergeant in A Company, 377th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division. He entered the service in New Jersey. He died on January 13, 2004 and is now buried in Bethel Memorial Park, Pennsauken, Camden County, New Jersey, USA.
