Monument

A stone monument on an elevated pad accessed by stairs.  A large bronze plaque on the road side is in French.  The large bronze plaque on the water side is in English.  Honors the US 36th Infantry Division

Monument Text:

Over this defended beach the men of the 36th US Infantry Division stormed ashore on 15 August 1944.  Together with their French allies they began here the drive that took them across France, through Germany and into Austria, to the final destruction of the German Armies and the Nazi Regime.
