Robichon.  Both signs are mounted on brick terraces.

LE 15 AOUT 1944, LE DEBARQUMENT...

Pendant la nuit du 14 au 15 Août, survol par des escadrilles et chute

de lourds projectiles sur toute la région.

Des avions bombardent Gigaro et LA PLAGE DE LA CROIX VALMER

des chasseurs apparaissent au sommet des Pradels et descendent mitrailler la plaine de Pardigon.

A la pointe du jour 400 batiments de transport escortes par 60 navires de guerre

américains et anglais abordent la baie.

Les bateaux font feu sur la plage depuis la Vigie jusqu'a Pardigon.

Vers 8 heures, les bateaux se rapprochent et des centaines d'embarcations sont mises a l'eau.

Un ecran de furnée se forme tandis que les tirs redoublent. Pendant trois quarts d'heure,

sans répit, les bateaux protégent le débarquement de la 3eme Division Américaine du

Général O'DANIEL qui fait partie du 6eme Corps Américain du Général TRUSCOTT.

C'est la FORCE ALPHA.

Vers 8 heures 30 le bombardement cesse. Les équipes de démineurs

du 36ème Génie Américain placent des rubans blancs pour indiquer

les passages praticables entre le rivage et la route.

Dans l'après midi, les avivos et torpilleurs français, arrivent dans la baie.

Six heures plus tard arrive le deuxième convoi composé de

7 navires de guerre escortant environ 40 bâtiments

dans lesquels se trouve 1'ere Armée Française commandée

par le Général de LATTRE DE TASSIGNY.

Sur la route littorale, les camions, les chars,

les troupes déferlent, se rendant aux prévus.

Les bords de la route se transforment en catonnements :

de vastes camps se forment. Des postes de DCA s'installent,

canons braqués vers le ciel, protégés par

des ballons captifs appelés "saucisses".

Plusieurs milliers de chars amphibies

se rassemblent chaque soir dans la plaine

qui s'étend au bas de la Vigie.

La tête de pont est établie,

le débarquement est un succès.

AUGUST 15, 1944, THE INVASION ...

During the night of August 14 to 15, squadrons flew and heavy projectiles fell all over the region.

Planes bomb Gigaro and LA PLAGE DE LA CROIX VALMER

attackers appear at the summit of the Pradels and descend to machine-gun the Pardigon plain.

At daybreak 400 Americans and English transport ships escorted by 60 warships

enter the bay.

Ships are firing at the beach from La Vigie to Pardigon.

Around 8 am, the ships get closer and hundreds of boats are launched.

A smokescreen forms during the heavy firing. For three quarters of an hour,

without respite, the boats protect the landing of the 3rd American Division of the

General O'DANIEL who is part of the 6th American Corps of General TRUSCOTT.

It is the FORCE ALPHA.

Around 8:30 am the bombing stopped. Mine clearance teams

of the 36th American Engineer place white ribbons to indicate

passable passages between the shore and the road.

In the afternoon, French avivos and torpedo boats arrive in the bay.

Six hours later, the second convoy of

7 warships escorting around 40 ships

in which is located the First French Army commanded

by General de LATTRE DE TASSIGNY.

On the coast road, the trucks, tanks,

and troops surge, going as planned.

The edges of the road are transformed into cantonements:

large camps are formed. AAA posts are installed,

cannons pointed towards the sky, protected by

captive balloons called "sausages".

Several thousand amphibious tanks

gather every evening on the plain

which extends from the bottom of the bay.

The bridgehead is established,

the landing is a success.
