Details:

Directly across the street from the Aisne Marne Cemetery Marker  A small stone pyramid shaped monument, one of 118 marking the 960 kms of the western front on 18 July 18, the limit of the German advance.  This was a project between 1921 and 1927 of the Touring Club de France and the Touring Club de Belgique.  Organizations and members of the public could sponsor bornes for around 3500 francs.  The bornes themselves were designed by the sculptor Paul Moreau-Vathier (1871-1936), himself a veteran of Verdun.  The bornes were sponsored by people from a host of different nationalities, including 19 from Argentina, 16 from Belgium, 6 Brits, 53 French, 3 Canadian, 2 Mexican, 7 Portuguese, 2 Senegal, and 2 Swiss.  This is one of eight bornes that were sponsored by Americans or American organizations, and was donated by the Association of Minute Women from the State of Washington.
