75th Infantry Division Plaque

This plaque is located in the bottom center of the monument at the Vielsalm lakeside side. Plaque This thin silver metal plaque is attached to gray field stone. The top of the plaque features the American (top left) and Belgian flags (top right) as well and the insignia of the 75th Infantry Division (top center). Along the bottom the monument are the crest of the town of Vielsalm (bottom left) and the logo of the WWII C-47 Club (bottom right). The bilingual French and English inscription describes the sacrifices of the 75th Infantry Division in and around Vielsalm. The two texts are separated with a small representation of Bald Eagle and American flags.
Monument Text:
Mid-January 1945: 75th Infantry Division (U.S.A.) recaptured the area east of the Salm River and liberated 15-16 January the communities of Vielsalm, Grand-Halleux and Salmchateau area.
Fighting in winter conditions against an enemy in its final retrograde and defensive action.
The 75th Infantry Division suffered a high number of casualties and many of its members made their final mile during the liberation of the Salm River Valley and its population.
Let us remember and honor all the men of 75th I.D., active in combat in the Salm River Valley in 1945.
A la mi-janvier 1945, la 75ème division d'infanterie U.S. libère la région à l'est de la Salm.
Les villages de Vielsalm, Grand-Halleux et Salmchâteau sont libérés le 15 - 16 janvier 1945.
Combattant dans d'extrêmes conditions hivernales contre un ennemi sur la défensive et aux abois, cette division subit d'énormes pertes et beaucoup de ces jeunes soldats donnèrent leur vie pour la libération de la vallée de la Salm et de sa population.
N'oublions jamais et honorons tous les hommes de la 75ème division d'infanterie qui ont combattu dans la vallée de la Salm en 1945.
