U.S. Army Half Track

<< Back to Bulge Relics Museum

Details:

This U.S. Army half-track is located on the southern side of the Bulge Relics Museum's parking lot in front of the museum's wooden barn door. It is adjacent to a small stone wall. Combat Vehicle This green U.S. Army half-track is a reconstruction built on an original chassis. The project to restore this vehicle began in 2016 when a member of the museum's staff remembered a chassis that he had seen while searching for another vehicle to refurbish in the 1990's, a Dodge WC51. After removing all of the vegetation which had been growing on the vehicle since after the war and partially digging it out of the ground, the museum staff brought chassis to a workshop and undertook a tedious cleaning and refurbishing, including the procurement of armored plating, painting, and even the manual production of some of the vehicle's most detailed components. Much to their surprise, the half-track's motor functioned after decades of disuse. The vehicle that is on display today is an impressive testament to the museum's dedication to preserving the memory of the Battle of the Bulge and of the appreciation of the Belgian people for the sacrifice of American soldiers during the Second World War.
