Museum of Operation Avalanche (MOA)

<< Back to Eboli

Details:

The museum is on the first floor of a renovated 13thcentury convent.

Museum

The museum describes Operation Avalanche – the 1943 Italian mainland landings in the Bay of Salerno. The museum is mainly a photographic exhibit, but also contains 4 rooms dedicated to the uniforms, equipment, and remembrances of the 4 main belligerents:  USA; Great Britain; Italy and Germany. Several of the photos in the museum are iconic.  One is the photo of PFC Paul Ogelsby reverently standing in the bombed out Church of Santa Maria dei Angeli located in nearby Acerno. The museum also hosts a 3-D movie depicting the Salerno Landings by sea, air and land.  The movie is exciting and includes quotes from two famous Avalanche participants, the author John Steinbeck and the photographer Robert Capa.

The museum is a part of the Italian War Route, a collaboration of museums and research centers remembering World War II in Italy.
