The American Air Museum in Duxford, Cambridgeshire, is a museum dedicated to American military aviation. The museum is part of the Imperial War Museum Duxford.
Opened in 1997, the museum, which is also a memorial to the American airmen who lost their lives during the WWII, is housed in an impressive building, designed by British architect Norman Foster to resemble a giant hangar.
Inside the museum, on a 70,000 square-foot surface, it is possible to see the largest collection of US military aircraft outside the United States. The large collection of the American Air Museum is composed of aircrafts, vehicles and artillery, including rare pieces, such as a 1917 Spad S-13, a B-17 Flying Fortress, a B-24 Liberator, a B-25 Mitchell, a P-47 Thunderbolt, a B-52 Stratofortress, a SR-71 Blackbird, a Lockeed U2 and an F-4 Phantom, among many others.
