379th Bomb Group Plaque
Details:
Affixed on the inside wall of the church, to the left of the chancel, behind the World War II Roll of Honor book.
A large white square plaque inscribed in English text which commemorated the 379th Bomb Group. On the top left is the carved insignia of the 379th Bomb Group while on the opposite is the insignia of the US Army Air Forces. The 379th Bomb Group (H) (heavy), based at Kimbolton, flew more sorties than any other Bomb Group in the Eighth Air Force and dropped a greater bomb tonnage than any other Group. The B-17 Flying Fortress Group was awarded two Distinguished Unit Citations, the first for operations across the period beginning 28 May 1943 to 31 July 1944. The second was awarded to the 1st Bomb Division as a whole for flying without fighter protection to bomb aircraft factories at Oschersleben on 11 January 1944.
