A life-sized statue of an American soldier standing on an engraved marble base.

 

Kerkrade was liberated by the 120th Infantry Regiment of the 30th “Old Hickory” Infantry Division on October 5, 1944 during the Battle of Overloon.

 

After the battle, the city was also served as a R&R location for American Soldiers.

 

The statue and “Old Hickory Square “were dedicated on the 50th Anniversary of the liberation of Kerkrade.
