Isolated Burial


A Belgian Military style war inscribed gravestone.

 

Private (Cook) Herman G. Rifflart was born in Antwerp, Belgium in 1890.  He immigrated to the US through Canada in the 1910.  In 1917 he joined the US Army and was assigned to the 77th Artillery Regiment of the 4th Infantry Division.  During the Battle of the Meuse-Argonne, he was killed during an Artillery attack near the Nantillois Breuilles Road.

 

After the war, his family requested his body be returned to his native Belgium for burial.  He is buried in the Belgian Army Section of the Antwerp Schoonselhof Communal Cemetery.
