Details:
On the façade of the town hall.
A rectangular black plaque containing a commemoration message that is inscribed in French in gold lettering. On the bottom center of the plaque is the picture of 2Lt Sam B. Dale, Jr. The plaque was inaugurated on November 11, 2018.
2Lt Dale was shot over the town on July 4, 1944. He was hit in the back of the head and died on the spot. His plane, P-47 Thunderbolt #42-75859, crashed in Tourneville. His body fell into a farmer’s field and was brought immediately to the town hall. The town paid for 2Lt Dale’s coffin and was initially buried in the cemetery of Mesnil-Fuguet cemetery.
