Cap Ferret U.S. Naval Air Station Plaque
Details:
Mounted on the outside wall of the sailing club building. The building is on the east side, off the alley.
A simple, clear, rectangular plaque that contains a commemoration message that is written in French and black lettering. The beach is named ‘des Américains’ as a tribute to the seaplane base established here in 1917 by the U.S. Navy. This was used to protect maritime convoys during World War One. The official name of the base is US Naval Air Station Arcachon.
