Under the memorial, inside the crypt. Isolated Burial The remains of First Lieutenant Andre P. Gundelach, an American volunteer pilot of the Lafayette Escadrille and later the 96th Aero Squadron. He was shot down during the Battle of St. Mihiel along with his co-pilot, 1LT Pennington Way on September 12, 1918.
