A stone pedestal with a bronze plaque on top.  

The insignia of the 1-5 FA appears on the front.  

Monument Text:

In the early dawn of Tuesday, 28 May 1918, French and American artillery began to shell German positions north of Cantigny in preparation for an attack on the village by the US First Division. The First Battalion, Fifth Field Artillery Regiment, commanded by Major Robert R. McCormick, concentrated the fires of its eight 155mm Scheider howitzers from positions to the west near Roquencourt in support of the successful attack. In 1937, McCormick, then publisher of the Chicago Tribune newspaper, participated in the dedication of the federal monument nearby. Dedicated 28 May 2005 by the McCormick Tribune Foundation and the village of Cantigny.
