On the outskirts of the forest south of the village of Elvange on the rue de la Fôret. Monument


A 6 foot polished grey granite monument dedicated to the 42nd Cavalry Squadron of the 6th "Super Sixth" Armored Division.  It has two flags on it, a French and US one, and a tile base in front of it with a cross of Lorraine.

A tous les Français

La France a perdu une bataille

mais la France na pas perdu la guerre

notre patrie est en péril de more

luttons tous pour la sauver

18 juin 1940

General De Gaulle

 

C’est par cette piste forestière

ou une patrouille du 42 escadrons de cavalerie

de la 6 DB US libera Elvange le 20.11.1944

après quatre années d'occupation nazie

honneur aux soldais mores pour la

France et la liberté

 

English Translation:

To the French people

France had lost a battle

but France has not lost the war

our country is in mortal peril

the time to save her is now
