On the side of the building, facing the street. Plaque A stone plaque with French text, commemorating the arrival in the town of Benjamin Franklin in 1776.  Heading for Nantes, his ship stopped here, apparently due to bad weather, and he spent the night of 4 Dec 1776 in this building.  He finally arrived in Nantes on 7 December and in Paris on 21 December.

Le 4 décembre 1776 débarqua à Auray Benjamin Franklin, envoyé en France par les Etats Unis d'Amérique pour négocier la première alliance entre les deux pays. 4 Décembre 1926 ENGLISH TRANSLATION: Benjamin Franklin disembarked in Auray on 4 December 1776. He was sent to France by the United States of American to negotiate the first alliance between the two countries. 4 December 1776.
