253rd Infantry Regiment Monument

Details:

On the north side of the road leaving Buchhof to the west towards Oedheim.  The monument is 100 meters past the town, just before a complex intersection. Monument A rough granite stele on which are mounted two metal plaques.


The memorial remembers the soldiers who fell in the Battle of Buchhof and Stein am Kocher in April 1945.  The soldiers were members of the 253rd Infantry Regiment of the 63rd "Blood and Fire" Infantry Division.  The 2nd Battalion of 253rd Infantry Regiment was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation for this action.

The memorial was dedicated in 1974 in the presence of several members of Company F, of the 253rd Infantry Regiment who are listed on the plaque.
