5th Division Stele of Dun-sur-Meuse
Details:
In the parking lot of the Gendarmerie Nationale station. Directly underneath a street sign that says "GENDARMERIE." Marker This marker is a white concrete stele that bears the red diamond insignia of the 5th Division and three granite plaques. The first plaque commemorates the liberation of Dun-sur-Meuse by the 5th U.S. Division on November 5th, 1918 and MAJ A. N. Stark, Jr., a commanding officer for the 5th Division. The second plaque commemorates the reinforcing of the Ponton Bridge, used by the 5th Division during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, by the 7th Engineers. The third plaque, which is diamond-shaped, honors the 14th Machine Gun Battalion, which was attached to the 9th Brigade during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive
