CPT Everett King Memorial

On the lawn in front of the town hall, on the right of the town's war memorial (as you are facing the building).

Cenotaph
A white marble headstone-shaped monument with gold leaf engraving in French.  The insignia of the 9th Air Force is engraved at the top.


The cenotaph remembers Captain Everett G. King of the 411th Fighter Squadron, 373rd Fighter Group. King was killed in aerial combat (P-47 42-28431) above the town in August 1944.  King also had a twin brother, Edwin V. King, who was a pilot in WW2; both graduated from the Virginia Military Institute in 1942.
