English translation:

The liberation of La Ferte Gaucher by American troops on 27 August 1944 at 7:20pm. The third vehicle in a convoy was hit by a German shell and burned on this spot. Captain George Thomas, American, Soldier Ernest Chance, American, and Soldier Stanley Zuber were killed on the battlefield. Soldier Jean Priol, French, 18 years old, was wounded.
