362nd Fighter Group Monument

Details:

On the west side of the road.

Monument

A trapezoidal shaped brick pillar with a sloping top with several plaques affixed on all sides that are inscribed in English. The top plaque contains brief information of the arrival date of the group to different cities, outline of a P-47 Thunderbolt Fighter on the upper left hand side and outline of a P-51 Mustang Fighter on the upper right hand corner followed by the 9th Air Force insignia. On the center is an outline of the Wormingford airfield runway, and a quote from Laurence Binyon. On the bottom left is a remembrance message. The left and right side of the monument are affixed with metal plaques which list the names of the 377th and 379th Fighter Squadron casualties while the front side is affixed with the same kind of plaque listing the 378th Fighter Squadron airmen. Another 3 plaques are affixed on the bottom for - the dedication message, Charles E. “Chuck” Mann, and Colonel Joseph Laughlin.
