When Charles L. Cerio was born in November 1897, his father, Joseph, was 29 and his mother, Mary, was 25. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Battery B, 6th Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Division. He died from his wounds received in battle on October 4, 1918 in France at the age of 20 and is now buried in Saint Joseph's Cemetery, Fleming, Cayuga County, New York, USA.
