MuseumA museum devoted to telling the story of the 8th and 15th US Air Forces air war over the Czech Republic (then Czechoslovakia) during WW2 and more specifically the "Air Battle over the Ore Mountains on September 11, 1944". The museum is known locally as "Muzea letecké bitvy nad Krunohoím 11.9.1944".
The museum tells the story of the Air war over the country of Czechoslovakia during World War 2 and a large section devoted to the Air Battle that took place over the Ore Mountains on September 11, 1944 which resulted in a large number of plane losses on both sides. The Ore mountains straddle the present day border of Germany and Czechia.
US units from the 8th Air Force were involved to include the 100th "Bloody Hundredth" Bomber Group and the 55th and 339th Fighter Groups providing bomber escort. Many bombers were shot down in the vicinity of the town of Kováská, Czechia where the museum is located.
The museum is located on a road named in honor of 1LT Albert Trommer. 1LT Trommer was the pilot of B-17 (42-102657) "Boss Lady" of the 350th Bomber Squadron of the 100th Bomber Group that crashed on this day; 1LT Trommer was KIA. The museum sits next to an Elementary school named in honor of Staff Sergeant JC Kluttz who survived the crash.
