Affixed to the outer wall of the façade.

Plaque

Site includes a memorial plaque to U.S.-Georgian aircraft designer Alexander Kartvelishvili (Kartveli), on the wall of a building where he lived during 1896-1919.

Alexander Mikhaylovich Kartvelishvili (Kartveli) was a Georgian-born aeronautical engineer and an aviation pioneer in the United States, who achieved important breakthroughs in military aviation from before World War II through the Cold War.

Born to a noble Georgian family in Tbilisi while Georgia was still within the Russian Empire, he was wounded as a junior artillery officer in World War I. To avoid the Bolsheviks during the Russian Civil War, he moved to France to study and work in aviation, before emigrating to the U.S. in 1927 and later becoming a U.S. citizen.

Kartvelishvili was responsible for the design of U.S. military aircraft, including:

- Seversky P-35, the first American fighter to have an enclosed cockpit, retractable landing gear, and all-metal construction

- Republic P-47 Thunderbolt, arguably one of the best fighters and ground attack aircraft of World War II

- Republic F-84 Thunderjet, a primary strike aircraft during the Korean War, and its update, the F-84F Thunderstreak fighter

- Republic F-105 Thunderchief, used extensively during the Vietnam War

- Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II, arguably one of the most capable close air support aircraft ever built, is still in active U.S. service
