Plaque

A metal plaque on the wall of the bridge dedicated by the city of Stavelot to the American soldiers who fought against the Nazi armies at this location during the Battle of the Bulge.

Monument Text:

Translated from French (some of the plaque is damaged and therefore illegible): In this place from December 18, 1944 to January 13 1945 hordes of Nazis  under Von Runsdedt were pushed back and contained by the forces of the American First Army. This plaque was put up by the city of Brussels, godmother of Stavelot in memory of the 131 [shot in this martyred city] September 6, 1949.
