A large, square, white plaque inscribed in English in black lettering. An image of a B-17G Flying Fortress is printed on the top of the plaque. The plaque signifies the grateful appreciation to the people of Lavenham for the friendship and hospitality they have shown to the men of the 487th Bombardment Group during World War II. The group arrived at RAF Lavenham, its base in England, on 4 April 1944, with the air echelon arriving between 13 and 17 April. The 487th entered combat on 7 May 1944, bombing airfields in Normandy in preparation for Operation Overlord, the invasion of Normandy. The 487th Bomb Group occupied the base until the end of the war in Europe.
