A brass inscribed plaque.

 

The plaque remembers the 55th Armored Infantry Battalion ”Patton’s Thunderbolts” of the 11th Armored Division fighting in the area during the "Battle of the Bulge" in December 1944 and January 1945.

 

The plaque was dedicated in 2000.

Monument Text:

The plaque text is written in English and French.  The English reads:

 

In memory of the men of

the 55th Armored Infantry Battalion,

11th Armored Division

Third Army of the United States

("Patton's Thunderbolts"),

who sacrificed their lives

upon the altar of liberty

at Tillet and Acul

on December 31, 1944

and at Bois de Nom de Falize

on January 14, 1945

so that others might live freely.
