Details:
On the north side of the airfield next to the Old Buckenham Club (Flying School).
The museum at Old Buckenham airfield is a tribute to the men of the 453rd Bomb Group. In 2015, the 453rd BG museum was opened to tell the story of the 453rd Bomb Group through a good collection of interesting artifacts and personal stories, all laid out in an easily accessed way. Outside, is a collection of other military artifacts from both the Second World War and the Cold War era, while nearby is Jimmy’s café named after the famous movie star Jimmy Stewart that served at Old Buckenham as a Group Operations Officer.
The 8th Air Force Heritage Gallery is the most significant addition to Old Buckenham Airfield since the opening of the 453rd Bombardment Group Museum. Constructed over the course of 2017 by the museum curator, James Clarey, and a small band of volunteers, this new gallery tells the personal stories of US Servicemen and women who were based in East Anglia during WWII, serving as part of the 8th Air Force.
