Inscription about the battle on August 3, 1944:

The battle of August 3, 1944

A German group stationed in front of the town war memorial fired on a passing maquis cyclist who managed to escape, but the car behind him, occupied by the interallied mission Ian (American commander Jo Gildee, the French captain Delorme (Desfarges), Canadian radio sergeant Louis Bourgoin and the maquis driver Mandinaud), accompanied by Lieutenant FFI Very, were fired on. Canadian sergeant Bourgoin and the resistance soldier Mandinaud were killed, but the others managed to escape and hide.

The firefight that followed between the RAF maquis volunteers, the reinforcements who arrived to help (Maurice, Adolphe, Joel...) and the enemy - who set fire to 17 houses and the Ecures farm - was very intense. The mutilated bodies of two resistance men, Clément Jarassier and Joseph Quiring were discovered at the farm.

The battle claimed four victims among resistance fighters and allies.

The commune of Pleuville was decorated with the Croix de Guerre with bronze star on November 11th 1948.
