Isolated Burial


The isolated burial of Ernst Von Vegesack. He is in the same grave as his wife Edla Amalia Sergel Von Vegesack. Their headstones are rectangular, made of metal, and are inscribed in Swedish in raised lettering. Their grave is fenced by metal pillars and chains. 

Col. Ernest M.P. Von Vegesack, 20th New York Infantry, served in the "Turner Regiment" or "Turners Rifles Regiment" during the US Civil War. He was a volunteer from Sweden who served in the Swedish military. The 20th New York fought in numerous battles in the Eastern Campaigns during the Civil War.
