Off the forest road in a small wooded clearing.

A stele with an engraving that is written in Czech with a small portrait of Lt Virgil Kirkham attached to the stele. Behind is an information board relating to him. This memorial was erected by the local Czech citizens.
LT Kirkham served with the 377th Fighter Squadron, 362nd Fighter Group. He was killed In Action, piloting P-47D Thunderbolt (44-89700) "Lady Jo-Ann II."on April 30, 1945, after striking trees while swerving to avoid flak during a strafing run on German armored stock near Domažlice, Czech. He is considered around the last airmen to be KIA in Europe in WW2. (MACR 14219).
