A brass inscribed plaque.

The plaque remembers the 339th Infantry Regiment, the "Polar Bears" of the 85th Infantry Division - the "Custer Division".  The 339th Custermen fought through the Gothic line near this point.  The plaque also remembers SSG Charles Saunders who was awarded the Silver Star for actions near here on October 2, 1944.
