Just off the narrow road in the farmers field across from the Rupt de Mad stream; about 2 meters off the path in a field.     


Marker

A black inscribed plaque attached to a white concrete base about 2 feet high.

The memorial remembers Major William "Billy" J. Bland, the commander of 1st Battalion, 356th Infantry Regiment, 89th Infantry Division who was killed near here on the first day of the Battle of San Mihiel on September 12, 1918.
