The monument faces west, running parallel to the road. All displayed monument texts are arranged around a brick walkway and a wall sits at the back of the arrangement running north to south.   Monument

      This monument consists of several components. The first is a stone tablet placed at the site on 10 November, 1949. It features the names of nine members of Company “M” of the 302^nd Infantry Regiment, 94^th Infantry Division and is written in English with gold paint. This original part of the memorial space is flanked by two bronze plaques which feature a letter written by President George Bush on 11 October, 1991 in honor of the memorial’s re-dedication ceremony as a monument for peace. Both plaques are identically embossed with gold lettering, one featuring English text and the other German. The third component of the monument is isolated from the others and sits several meters south. This component features a white pedestal with a bronze plaque and silver embossed lettering in both English and German. Unit insignia is displayed on both the pedestal and the wall which is located on the north side of the original memorial. Two flag poles sit directly behind the wall on its north side.

1991 Plaques: The White House

I am pleased to send warm greetings to all those who are gathered for the dedication of the 94^th Infantry Division Memorial at Potsdamer Platz.

History will celebrate the courage and the tenacity of those division members who made the ultimate sacrifice in the defense of freedom. Indeed, while we can never repay the fallen heroes of the 94^th, we can ensure that their great deeds are not forgotten. This monument, which stands between the Moselle and Saar Rivers, will serve as a lasting reminder of the liberty, peace, and security that each of them helped to win for us.

Thanks in no small part to the selfless efforts of the 94^th, today we can enjoy the expectation of a Europe whole and free. The United States is proud to have worked for that goal and to enjoy special ties of kinship and respect with a united Germany. We welcome the dedication of this memorial as a sign of our mutual commitment to international cooperation and peace.

Es ist mir eine freude, all denen meine herzlichsten grüsse zu senden, die sich am Potsdamer Platz eingefunden haben, um das Denkmal der 94sten Infanterie Division einzuweihen. 

Die Geschichte wird den mut und die zähigkeit jener soldaten der Division rühmen, die ihr leben bei der Verteidigung der freiheit geopfert haben. Obwohl wir den gefallenen helden der 94sten niemals einen gegendienst erweisen können, mussen wir doch sicher stellen, dass ihre grossen taten nicht vergessen werden dieses Denkmal zwischen Mosel und Saar steht als bleibende Erinnerung an jene männer, die uns geholfen haben freiheit, frieden und sicherheit zu gewinnen. 

Heute können wir einer Europäischen Gemeinschaft entgegensehen, nicht zuletzt aufgrund des selbstlosen einsatzes der 94sten Division. Die vereinigten staaten sind stolz, für dieses ziel gearbeitet und besondere beziehungen der freundschaft und des gegenseitigen respekts mit einem vereinten Deutschland verwirklicht zu haben.  

Dieses Denkmal soll uns auch an unsere gemeinsamen verpflichtungen für internationale zusammenarbeit und an den friede erinneren.

1994 Plaques: The Peace Monument

This are was a WWII battlefield where American and German soldiers engaged in mortal combat during the severe winter of 1944-1945. Veterans of both countries have visited this area to recall what took place here and to honor the memories of fallen comrades. Casual meetings between former enemies led to understanding and, finally, friendship.

The German War Graves Comission through retired Leutenant Colonel Robert Sossna contacted representatives of the 94^th Infantry Division Association concerning the need to relocate the original memorial erected in November 1945 by Company M, 302^nd Infantry Regiment, American 94^th Infantry Division.

This communication resulted in the desire to erect a peace memorial here on the highest ridge in the area. Wish became reality on 13 October 1991, when veterans of both countries who had fiercely fought each other in the Saar-Moselle Triangle, gathered and joined in brotherhood to dedicate this Monument to Peace.

Veterans of both countries have thus rededicated this monument to be a Symbol of Peace.

May it last forever.

Das Friedensdenkmal

Im zweiten Weltkrieg war dieses Gebiet ein Schlachtfeld für amerikanische und deutsche Soldaten im bitteren Winter 1944-1945 

Veteranen beider Nationen besuchten diese Umgebung um Erinnerungen wachzurufen und gefallene Kameraden zu ehren. Informelle Begegnungen zwischen früheren Feinden führten zu gegenseitigen Verständnis und dann – Freundschaft! 

Der Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge e.V. hat im Jahre 1990 durch Oberstleutnant a.D. Robert Sossna Abgeordnete des Traditions Verbandes der 94ten Infanterie Division benachrichtigt, dass das originale Denkmal, errichtet im November 1945 bei  Kompanie M des 302 Infanterie Regimentes der Amerikanischen 94ten Infanterie Division, zu verlegen sei.

Aus den folgenden Unterredungen ergab sich der wunsch ein Friedensdenkmal am höchsten Punkt dieser Bergkette zu errichten. Wunsch wurde Wirklichkeit als Veteranen beider Länder, die sich im Dreiländereck bitterlich bekämpft hatten, am 13. Oktober 1991 Zusammenkamen und in brüderlicher Gemeinschaft das Denkmal für den Frieden einweihten.

Nun haben Veteranen beider Nationen wieder einmal dieses Denkmal als Symbol des Friedens gewidmet.

Möge es für immer erhalten bleiben
