Details:

The memorial sits facing the road, with train tracks running parallel to it on its north side. It can be seen clearly from the road and is linked to the roadway by a short dirt path. Monument The granite monument sits in a concrete foundation and features white leaf text in both English and French as well as the insignia of both the 314th Infantry Regiment, 79th Infantry Division and the 749th Tank Destroyer Battalion. The memorial commemorates those soldiers who were killed or wounded during a battle with the German 21st Panzer Division from 20-23 September 1944 in the struggle to liberate Moncel-lès-Lunéville.

“In memory of the American soldiers of the 314th Infantry Regiment

of the 79th Infantry Division and the 749th Tank Destroyer Battalion

who died or were wounded when they crossed the Meurthe River fighting

the soldiers of the 21st Panzer Division from September

20 to September 23, 1944”
