Comte de Rochambeau Statue
Details:
In the back of the fenced off area closest to Rue Freycinet. Statue The memorial is a bronze statue of Jean-Baptiste Donatien de Vimeur, known by most simply as Rochambeau. Rochambeau was a French nobleman and general who helped General Washington fight the British during the American Revolution. The statue depicts Rochambeau pointing with his right hand and holding a paper in his left; he is standing on top of a church bell.
The base of the statue is made of concrete and contains inscriptions on each side of it, including a quote from George Washington thanking Rochambeau for his invaluable help during the American Revolution.
Rochambeau is greatly respected and appreciated for his service in helping the U.S. gain its freedom from the British. This memorial is a testament to that profound appreciation for our great French ally.
