Court of Honor and Flag Circle

In the center of the park. Just south of Smiling Cove. Monument The Court of Honor and Flag Circle is an elevated concrete courtyard with a set of stairs leading up to 5 flag poles, upon which fly the American flag, as well as the Army, Marine, Navy, and Air Force service flags. In the courtyard, there are 26 granite plates containing over 5,000 names of American and Marianas marines and soldiers who were killed or missing in action during Operation Forager and the Battle of the Philippine Sea during World War II. 


The memorial commemorates, in particular, the D-Day of Saipan, June 15, 1944, in which the 2nd and 4th Marine Divisions and the 27th Infantry Division landed on the western shores of Saipan and defeated the 43rd Division of the Imperial Japanese Army.
