When William Carty Savill was born on April 12, 1895, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, his father, Thomas, was 26 and his mother, Ida, was 24. He had three siblings. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company M, 28th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on July 20, 1918 (at the age of 19) in Picardie, France and is now buried in Arlington Cemetery, Drexel Hill, Delaware County, Pennsylvania, USA. His surname is inscribed on the Buzancy monument as Savilm.
