When Frank Joseph Giesting was born on September 3, 1887, in Oldenburg, Indiana, his father, John, was 46 and his mother, Elizabeth, was 29. He entered the service on Sept. 22, 1917 and was assigned to Company F, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division during WWI. He embarked for France on June 11, 1918 but was Killed in Action on October 4, 1918 (at the age of 31) and is now buried in Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial, Romagne-sous-Montfaucon, Departement de la Meuse, Lorraine, France.
