When Hubert Earl McHenry was born on April 21, 1894, in Indiana, Pennsylvania, his father, Samuel, was 42 and his mother, Mary, was 33. He had four brothers and two sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company H, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died from his wounds received in battle on October 5, 1918 and is now buried in Grove Chapel Lutheran Church Cemetery, Indiana, Indiana County, Pennsylvania, USA.
