Joseph Martin Hansen was born on October 19, 1892 in Cheyenne, Laramie County, Wyoming. His father is Carl Gustav and his mother is Rebecca Elizabeth Hansen. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Corporal in Company M, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died from his wounds received in battle on October 11, 1918 (at the age of 25) in France and is now buried in Rose Hill Cemetery, Rifle, Garfield County, Colorado, USA.
